On the 17th of November, the social media giant Twitter launched a new feature which allows you to post more informal content which will only remain on your page for 24 hours. They have called this feature “Fleets” and you can expect it to be similar to other social media platforms’ story features that aim to engage people who feel intimidated or unsure about tweeting onto their timeline.
Here is everything that you need to know about Fleets.
Just like Snapchat and Instagram stories, Fleets are essentially disappearing tweets. They will appear for only 24 hours, unlike normal tweets that stay put forever (unless removed).
When the feature becomes available in your country, you will be able to add to your own Fleets by clicking your profile icon at the top of your timeline and adding to your fleet story.
You can add text, reactions to others’ tweets, reposts of your own tweets and photos or videos to your Fleets.
You can share other Tweets in your Fleets section and add comments, emojis and hashtags.
To share a Tweet in your Fleets, tap the “Share” icon at the bottom of the Tweet and then tap, “Share in Fleet.”
Fleets won't appear in your timeline, but you can see them via an icon at the top of your followers’ timeline.
They are a great way of sharing your “fleeting thoughts” on a subject without feeling judged or having the need to attract followers and attention.
No need to feel pressured into racking up retweets and likes as this isn't possible, no option for a “re-fleet”.
If you have a public profile and open direct messages, anyone can reply to your Fleets but their comment will not be public.
To respond to someone else’s Fleet, you must have approval to direct message the person.
So there you have all the information you need in order to get Fleet savvy as soon as this feature is launched in your country. At the moment it has been launched as a trial in Brazil, Italy, India, and South Korea with good feedback but a few limitations have been noted that are currently being worked on.
We think this is a really positive fun new feature from Twitter. It also has the potential to minimise the effect of public trolls, which has up to date been a major issue faced on Twitter by its users. So all that remains to say is, happy Fleeting!
