Grow your audience with these top COVID-19 hashtags

It’s no surprise that COVID-19 is a trending topic right now and with all the hashtags surrounding the pandemic, it’s easy for some posts to get lost in newsfeeds. In order to be seen by users, you will need to look at trending hashtags and start using them. In this article, we take a look at the top seven hashtags being used at the moment so that you can start using them in your posts.

Let’s begin with the obvious.  We have grouped these three together because they are all talking about the same thing - the virus! People are collectively using these hashtags in posts to discuss the pandemic and to gain any new information and updates.  It is much faster for users to gain information via social media as it is so instant, as opposed to manually searching on Google for example and sifting through articles on news pages.

This is by far the most searched for group of hashtags right now, so it is a good idea to include in your posts if they are related of course. As these hashtags are so broad, however, we would advise you to use alongside any other hashtags that may relate more specifically to the topic you are posting about.

This one has been a global message that people have used in order to encourage others not to leave their homes in order to help control the spread of the virus. It is as a message very clear - stay home!

Another use of the hashtag has been for users to post about what they have been doing while staying home.  It’s a good way to promote positive tips with users and help them stay focussed on why we all need to #StaySafeStayHome

This hashtag has been used humorously by users in order to describe things that they are starting to ‘forget’ about due to being in lockdown. Most of us can relate to this one, and it is good to feel connected to other users when they are talking about the same things that we also miss! There are other humorous hashtags doing the rounds on social media and many people are creating all sorts of challenges and relatable content in order to survive including:

This hashtag currently has 6.9 million mentions on Instagram (as of 4th May 2020). It’s a new way of life that we are all facing for an unknown period of time, and people are using the #lockdown hashtag to discuss and find out how others are spending their lockdown lives! Users are getting creative and will often add to the hashtag, for example, #lockdown2020#lockdownlife, #lockdownmemes and #lockdownchallenge (as mentioned above). As we are all currently at home, no wonder this is a trending topic and one to use if you want to be seen!

This hashtag is mainly being used by people to show their frustrations about others not practising social distancing, and many are exposing these people on social media. It can be a bit of a controversial one to use as it could be seen as a negative hashtag and a way to shame people.  It has been used in 28,165 posts so far (as of 4th May 2020) and the main aim is to encourage people to follow the rules and help flatten the curve. It can also be used as a humorous hashtag with users posting about their own #lockdownfails

These hashtags are being used globally to talk about what it is like now that your home is also your office.  People are sharing tips and ideas of how to make the most of this new working/living space hybrid.  These tips range from the best routine of how to keep yourself motivated when the couch is calling your name, or the best way to fit in also homeschooling your children at the same time, to what your comfiest office pyjamas look like! As long as you keep it positive you can’t go far wrong. As most of the globe is now #WFH it’s natural that people want to share their experiences about it.

This hashtag refers to the number of people who are predicted to contract the virus after a certain period of time. It is another show of support people are using in order to promote all the measures needed to “flatten” the curve such as social distancing, lockdown and handwashing for example.
